This course is intended, on the one hand, for players of any level who want to see how important psychology is during a competition as well as
learn specific techniques to use themselves during their games. On the other hand, we are going to offer important ideas and tools for any coach to
time to prepare and carry out the sessions with your students.
We will talk about issues such as motivation or confidence and we will delve into others that are decisive in the practice of competitive chess such as proper time management.
Finally, we are going to work on cases that the course attendees previously present to us, in order to offer concrete strategies to carry out.
  • What is the methodology?Although the methodology will be through theoretical expositions we will offer,on the one hand, practical strategies for both players and coachesthat they will be able to implement in their day to day. On the other hand, we will propose somedynamics during the session in order to understand and integrate the techniques and thusbe able to train them more efficiently once the session is overcorrespondent. Complementary material will also be offered online.
  • What are the contents?As an index, the contents that will be worked on are the following:

  • 2. Motivation and self-confidence
  • 3. Concentration
  • 4. Time management
  • 5. Results management
  • 6. Decision making
  • How long does it last?
  • The course is scheduled in two sessions with a duration of 4 hours each session, plus an estimated work of 12 hours online. In total, the duration of the course will be 20 hours.
  • The days and hours will be September 20 and 21 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (Spanish time).

  • Faculty:The course is taught by two professionals in psychology and chess;
  • Carlos Martínez Piqueras,psychologist specialized in chess and expert in gestalt therapy techniques. He is coordinator of the Psychology Area of the Valencian Chess Federation (FACV), as well as a member of the technical team (psychologist) of the Spanish Chess Federation (FEDA) in the European and World Championships since 2013. He works as a psychologist in the Spanish men's and women's Olympic teams. He is part of the technical team of the FACV Technification Program (young talents) since 2013. He is a level 1 trainer and a FIDE (FT) trainer. Post regularly on the Chess24 portal. He is a professor of international conferences and has many publications in magazines and portals.
  • José Francisco Suárez Roa, psychologist, doctor in psychology, master's degree in cognitive and behavioral psychology, specialized in chess and expert in decision-making. He is president of the Technical Committee of Monitors and Trainers of the Spanish Chess Federation (FEDA), he has worked with absolute and female Spanish teams in various international competitions as a member of the technical team (psychologist) of the Spanish Chess Federation (FEDA). He works as a psychologist with different players, FIDE Masters as Grand Masters. He has been part of the technical team of the FBE Technification Program (young talents) since 2008.
